About

Governing Board

Our goal is to make learning fun and to create a safe and nurturing environment where ‘Guided by God’s Light, we aim to Experience, Enjoy and Excel’.

We aim to ensure all children will enhance and develop their natural talents to the best of their abilities in the most creative and enjoyable way possible. In addition to this we offer exciting and stimulating activities and experiences. We also encourage you to support your child in their learning at home and together we can maximise their success – that’s ‘The All Saints’ Way’.

From my perspective as Chair of Governors, one of the strengths of New Longton All Saints’ lies in the close links we have developed between school, the teachers, the governors, the parents, the church and the local community. This engenders a spirit of belonging and respect, an essential part of education and key to the nine Christian values which underpin our ethos.

As a board, we are united in the pursuit of our fulfilling our Christian vision and seek to empower the Headteacher and the school team to succeed in its goals. The board has an exceptional understanding of safeguarding and, in every aspect of its work, prioritises the safety of all in our school community. Members of the board include members of our local community, our own teaching staff and our parish priest.

Our Governing Board is ambitious for all children and young people and is infused with a passion for education and a commitment to continuous school improvement; this enables the best possible outcomes. Governance at NLAS is grounded in reality and a full understanding of the views and needs of pupils/students, staff, parents, carers and our local communities. It is driven by inquisitive, independent minds and through challenging conversations focussed on the key strategic issues which are conducted with humility, good judgement, resilience and determination.

We are very proud of our school and look forward to sharing it with you.

Role of the Governing Board

Governors have three main functions:

  • We set and uphold the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school.
  • We hold the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the children.
  • We oversee the financial performance of the school to make sure its money is well spent.

Governors also ensure the school’s safeguarding measures are safe and effective. We meet as a full governing board six times a year (once per half term).
